In the past accounting was done with logbooks. Now it is being done automatically with software. The only records that are kept are how many pages each username has printed and on what printers. If you reed to keep track of research vs. class vs. personal printing, you will have to do that on your own.

How to connect to a network printer

Windows

Start the "Add Printer Wizard". This is found in Printers folder, which can be found either on the Start menu or in the Control Panel.
Select "Add Network Printer". Click next.
Select "Connect to this Printer" and type in the network path of the printer, which will be "\\MARCY\name_of_printer". So, in order to add the printer "rockies", you would add "\\MARCY\rockies". Click next.
If you are asked to enter a username and password, enter your EARTHNET username and password.
If the computer asks you for a driver, you need to go download the drivers for the printer from the HP website. Just follow the menus and get the PCL6 driver for the correct printer model and operating system.

Macintosh OS 9

Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for the printer you are going to add. Go the the HP website and follow the menus to download the driver installer file for the correct printer model and operating system.
Go to the Apple menu and select Chooser. Select "Laserwriter 8", AppleTalk zone Geophysics, and the list of printers should appear.
Select the correct name for the printer, which is "nameofprinter_ps". For example, to add the printer "rockies" you would choose "rockies_ps", not "rockies".
Click setup. Click "select PPD". Choose the correct printer model from the list.
