Research Scientist/Lab Manager in High P-T Experimental Petrology
The Department of Earth Science at Rice University is seeking a Ph.D. level scientist for a Research Staff Scientist/Laboratory Manager position, to facilitate the high pressure-temperature experimental facility. Immediate responsibility of the Research Scientist will be to install and calibrate the newly acquired 1100-ton Walker-style multi-anvil device. Prior experience with multi-anvil installation, calibration, and relevant data acquisition and data-logging is desirable. The responsibility in the long-term will involve overseeing the operational details of the facility, which also includes two fully functional piston cylinder apparatus and one gas mixing furnace. The candidate is expected to participate in the research activities of Dasgupta group and collaborate with the other faculty members in the department. The initial appointment is for 3 years with an option for renewal based on performance and the availability of funding. The position is intended to be a long-term position, funded partially by Rice University. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree by the time of appointment in an experimental high pressure research related field such as experimental petrology-geochemistry and mineral physics.
